Propriano is what you would call low-key in terms of holiday popularity, but the region has a very good potential when it comes to its geography and the locals have been working on putting the town on the map.
General Info
This small destination is settled on a natural port that was even used by the ancient Greeks and Romans. The port that lies 57 km southeast of Ajaccio was a prime target later in the 18th century for Saracen pirate raids. The rebuilding process took place in the 1900s and now it’s known as a fine resort, with a modern marina.
Travel and Arrival
Arriving in a plane is possible from two airports on the island. The first is Ajaccio-Campo Dell’Oro international airport 57 km northwest from Propriano and Sud Corse, 55 km to the southeast which is smaller and has no direct connection to the town, which means that the group will have to rent a car.
There are ferry services that link to the big cities like Marseille, Nice, Toulon, Savona and Genoa. These also link Propriano with other cities on the island like Ajaccio, Bastia and Calvi. This is in case the tourist wants to avoid driving through Corsica.
Avant & Apres Sail
The port is undoubtedly the biggest thing in town and the backbone of its economy, that’s why most of the action is to be found on the marina shores, very convenient for the sailor who needs only to head to the avenue Napoleon.
Most hotels can be found in the center of the town, but there are more convenient places to be found outside the urban area. Those campers will be able to find camp sites just outside of town which are very well fitted, providing pool access.
Eating also takes place along the marina where a hungry crew could sample Italian dishes and, of course, the freshest seafood.
There is little to see in terms of architecture or historical buildings, but the location does make up for it with its pristine beaches and the quiet, ancient atmosphere.
Events & Actions
Considering that most of the action here is focused on the harbor, you can imagine that the main activities here include sunbathing and water sports. With so many fine beaches, it won’t be too difficult even for the pickiest guests to find something they like. bookings can be made in the marina, and that’s also where you can get into some other water sports like kayaking, jetskiing and diving.
